Release v2.0.3.6 beta (2014-03-24) When starting, a single drive can take a number of minutes to load. This delay can the result in a number of system services failing to start. With the "Dark" theme, disabled field have an incorrect background color. Text incorrect for drive offline action option. Minimising and restoring the Manager results in the drives list becoming corrupt.

Release v2.0.3.4 beta (2014-03-21) Updated driver to the release driver. When attempting to delete a file that the user does not have permission to delete, the driver is now reporting the error correctly under Windows 8 and Server 2012. An incorrect CRC value can be returned when a file is zero bytes in length. The CRC calculation on a file can cause the file to become locked. [n] Added option to have all mount points dismount if one or more drives go offline. Improved drive detection when a system wakes from sleep (prevent drive offline messages). [n] Added an option to dismount mount points when removing or swapping a drive. During balancing all drives are now checked to make sure all are flagged as ok (otherwise balancing is aborted). Added user authentication to the pooling of network drives. Improved the way drives are checked to determine if they are on/offline. Tuned a number of the DB Manager / addin themes. [n] Drive details are persisted across reboots (i.e. is a drive goes offline, Drive Bender retains key information such as the volume name, mode and serial numbers across reboots). Fixed a number of issues with the new "Dark" theme. [n] The "Dark" theme is now the default theme. The drives list now resized into multiple columns space permitting. The width of the columns in the File Access list are now retained.
All beta versions can be downloaded from here.

Release v2.0.3.2 beta (2014-03-08) Pool restore not be offered when the Manager first starts. Multiple queues of the same type could be created causing conflicts. Notification icon was not returning to the correct color. The duplication manager could crash is there is no available mount points. Added the "Dark" theme. Themes can now be changed without restarting the Drive Bender Manager (Server addin does not support this feature). When a duplication task is being rescheduled, the rescheduling can fail. Updated internal file copy/move routines to improve file locking issues. Opening the Running Tasks windows could cause them Manager to hang.   It is important to note that we now have a single installer that services all versions of Windows. Another important note is that we are cleaning legacy Drive Bender drivers during the upgrade process, as a result it can take some time to mount the pool(s) after the initial upgrade.
All beta versions can be downloaded from here.

You could choose not to add the drive(s) with your duplicates on and just set up the same files/folders in the pool to be duplicated by DB.

Once done, remove the dups from your drive(s) then merge them into the pool.

    Just a thought.

Yep, there is such a featurem but the server is nearly never on after midnight.

So what i did instead, is to set it to aggresive, and let it do it's job when not watching movies. If i have to i turn off balancing while watching.

I have also enable smooth streaming, so ill test it soon while it is balancing to see if that does anything.

Thanks both of you for the help

OK, so you'll just have to be aware when it's running for the time being

I think I made some progress on this issue. My system has been up and running about 3 hours since I rebooted after performing a fix and so far I've been watching the pool steadily read data from various drives.

Having tried everything I could think of on my system I started looking for similar setups online. I came upon this thread over on the FlexRAID support forums, actually sticked to the News & Updates board:
    WARNING: S.M.A.R.T monitoring on Samsung F4 EcoGreen drives (HD155UI, HD204UI) http://forum.flexraid.com/index.php/topic,886.0.html

Turns out I do have a Samsung EcoGreen F4 HD204UI drive in one of my enclosures. I did a bit more reading:

    http://yetanotherblahg.wordpress.com/2011/05/15/samsung-f4-2tb-hd204ui-firmware-upgrade-guide/

    Problem description
Looks like a pretty nasty firmware bug in the older HD204UI drives from Samsung where reading certain data (issuing the "Identify" SATA command while writing data using NCQ) can cause a whole litany of bad behavior, up to and including data loss.

My suspicion here is that the Drive Bender SMART monitor (or something else running on my system) was polling something from the HD204UI's Identify data while it had a write queued, and this caused failures to write to the disk. I don't fully understand how this caused wholesale instability, but I don't really want to go back and get a live repro at this point either.

    My proposed solution
Basically the steps described here: http://yetanotherblahg.wordpress.com/2011/05/15/samsung-f4-2tb-hd204ui-firmware-upgrade-guide/

If that page goes down at some point in the future, the cliff's notes are:
make a bootable USB drive that can boot to DOS. One set of directions are http://www.biosflash.com/e/bios-boot-usb-stick.htm Copy the Samsung firmware patcher to the USB drive Remove every hard drive from the system except for the HD204UI to be patched Setup the system with AHCI or RAID mode (not IDE mode) Boot using the newly-prepared USB drive and update the firmware Be sure to power the system all the way off before rebooting back to the operating system. Also note that the Firmware revision number on the drive may not change. Having now performed these steps, my system appears to be running stably. It's a bit early to tell for certain, but so far so good.

    Verification of this solution
I will update this thread if I experience further instability in my pool. Alternately (and I hope) I will also update this thread if the remaining 8743 tasks in my Processing Task Queue finish successfully and I'm able to return my pool back to production. (I'm currently at 385 of 9128 tasks completed, but steady progress is being made). For the amount of data in my pool, this could take a day or two. I'm at 10.68 TB free of 27.29TB available, with most of that data duplicated.

    Until next time!
