Cannot copy files in explorer - Can't read from the source file or disk

Recommended Posts

I am having a problem after windows update with my drive bender pool.

It seems I have trouble accomplishing any file operations such as cut copy paste with files from the pooled drive.  There are no errors in drive bender and everything is online.

If I try to copy a file from the pool, i get the error "Can't read from the source file or disk."  I also get this same error on another computer that has accessed to shared folders from the pool.

I have tried upgrading drive bender from 3.6.0 to 3.7.0, I have also tried the file system health check.  I have also tried taking the pool offline restarting, and bringing it back online.

Interestingly if I open a problem file from the pool and use the save as function to another location, the documents save fine.

I would really appreciate any help or advice with restoring the functionality if anyone can point me in the correct direction.

I had an excellent experience with support and through some careful hunting we found that one of the pooled drive file systems had converted to exFAT from NTFS for some unknown reason.

The fix was to copy all the files from the mount point of the exFAT drive to a good NTFS drive in the pool, then force a removal of the bad drive from the pool, reformat the bad drive, add it back in, then rebalance.

I have no idea how the drive decided it wanted to be a different file system, and we may never knw the root cause, but I want to thank Division M for the great product and great support.
